It not only helps in maintaining life on the Earth but also it is a home to million of smaller
makes the upper covering of the surface of the Earth.
And plants give us oxygen and food , it follows that soil is very important for life on Earth
organisms.

one of the basic component that led to the evolution of the life on the earth.
Plants live and grow in the soil. soil supports plants and plants produce
food and help to maintain oxygen levels in the air.

SOIL FORMATION
The formation of soil takes place over hundreds and  thousands of years. soil is formed form
the weathering of rocks and minerals. The hard rocks present on the surface of the
earth are heated up nu the Sum and cooled down by rain and wind. Due to this
constant heating and cooling , they develop cracks. With the passage of time
and continuous action of wind, water and temperature , these cracks get bigger
and bigger. As a result the rocks breaks up into smaller pieces . They are then
carried away by wind these pieces of rocks rub against each other. they
further breaks into very tiny particles forming pebbles. gravel and finally
sand. This asnd gets mixed with humus and forms soil.

Types of soil
soils are made up of material particles, brown layers of sticky human , air and water.

There are mainly three types of soil, depending on the size, feel and Color of the
soil particles.
  1. Sand is light and dry. Water passes easily through this kind of soil.
  2. Clay particles are extremely fine. Clay becomes very heavy and  quite sticky when wet.
  3. Water does not flow freely in this soil.
  4. Gravel is full of tiny stones and does not hold water well.

Dead remains of plants and animals form human . Human gets mixed in the top layer of
soil , and makes it rich and fertile. LOAMY SOIL (silt) is usually very good for growing plants.
This is because it contains the right amount of water, air and minerals in such as, of garden.
